current obsession: antique encaustic tile

I wish I could do a kitchen floor in antique French or Belgian cement tile but I think I will settle for a patchwork panel behind the stove. I love the bohemian look of it against the sleek, modern range. I found a place in France where I can order a patchwork panel that they have put together for me or another place in the midwest where I can pick and choose my own tiles for the panel.

  1. Hi – I am currently at the outset of our own barn conversion/building project and have the same desire to have a patchworktile panel behind our cooker when it’s fitted. I have collected many large tiles and now have been overjoyed to find bucketsful of old Victorian encaustic tiles as my husband digs a treanch for our water supply. I would be happy to share inspiration and ideas with you, and know how your project progresses.

    • Hi Sarah! How exciting to have a comment on my blog! My project is firmly in the planning stage. Do you have a blog for your project? I’d love to see pictures! Unearthing bucketsful of antique Victorian tiles is my idea of finding buried treasure.
